The primary strength of any organization is its management team. Darius Garland and Archie Roper each have experience in the business and filmmaking. In addition the company has relationships with key consultants and advisors who will be available to fill important roles on an as needed basis. The following individuals make up the core team that will produce “Black Girl”.
Archie Roper, Director, Writer, Producer
Archie Roper graduated form Columbia College in 2002 with a BA in Film / Directing. Since graduation Archie has worked on numerous productions that have come through Chicago. Archie has worked on such productions as “Barbershop”, ‘Barbershop 2”, and “The Weatherman” in addition to producing and directing numerous music videos for local artist. Archie has raw filmmaking talent and a dedicated work ethic.
Darius J. Garland, CEO and Producer
Darius Garland graduated from Columbia College in 1997 with a degree in marketing. Since he has held several positions management, sales, and marketing with major corporations. Darius has recently returned to Columbia College to pursue a Second BA in Film / Producing. Since returning to Columbia Darius has produced and or directed 4 short films. As a producer his experience will be used to create a production budgets, acquire scripts for development, and oversee the overall production of all films. Darius is also an actor and writer.
Deborah Capone, Associate Producer
Debbie Capone is working toward her BA in Film / Editing at Columbia College. Debbie brings a wealth of experience to the table. Her management and administrative experience are valuable assets to the organization. Debbie’s responsibilities include hiring and interviewing production crews and administrative support to the producers. Debbie is also a writer, editor, and documentary filmmaker.
Angelique Westerfield, Location Manager
Angelique Westerfield graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre. Angelique is currently working toward a Masters Degree in Documentary Filmmaking at Columbia College Chicago. Angelique’s experience includes working on several major studio productions for Miramax Films, Warner Brothers and MGM United Artists. Angelique’s responsibilities include locations and casting.
Jose Rios, Cinematographer / Director of Photography
Jose Rios graduated from Columbia College Chicago with honors with a degree in Film/Video specializing in Cinematography. The young cinematic explorer is making himself known as a prospering independent cinematographer in Chicago, shooting an abundant of shorts, commercials, music videos, documentaries and his most recent T.V show Taste for NBC produced by Jennifer Weigel, directed and produced by Michael Thelin. After studying under Phedon Papamichail, ASC on the feature film The Weatherman in Chicago, starring Nicholas Cage and directed by Gore Verbinski, Rios has been inspired immensely to continue with mighty force to construct profitable and creative projects while making his mark in the art of cinematography.
Adam Berry, Writer, Director
Adam Berry graduated form Columbia College in 2002 with a BA in Film / Directing. Since graduating Adam has written and directed several short films and has become an accomplished production assistant working on television commercial shoots for Allstate, Budweiser, Sears, and McDonalds. Adam has also worked in various major studio productions for Fox 2000, HBO Films and Universal Studios. Adam will work as first assistant director to Archie Roper on “Black Girl”
